Job Summary

Our thriving client is a management consulting firm in the DC metro area that serves non-profit clients. They are employee-owned management company looking for a Senior Accountant for their Chicago office. This Senior Accountant and their team provide a comprehensive set of accounting and financial expertise to their clients. The Senior Accountant will act as a mini-controller, handling all aspects of financial management for our diverse client base.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following areas:

  • Produce standard monthly financial statements, to include balance sheet, income statement and statement of cash flows
  • Maintain each client organizations financial statements, ledgers and other required reports including the chart of accounts and budget data
  • Prepare month end and year end work papers, as well as reconciliations as part of the financial statement issuance process
  • Perform detailed review and analysis of client financial statements for direct issuance
  • Partner with client teams to produce any needed financial analysis and additional reporting
  • Interact with client teams to perform research, answer questions about the financial statements and explain accounting procedures
  • Account for and analyze client investments
  • Interact with client board and finance committee members as needed to answer questions about the financial statements and explain variances to budget/forecast
  • Supervise and train members of the accounting team as needed
  • Act as a liaison to client auditors during the annual audit process
  • Assist the client team and their tax professional regarding tax and other regulatory matters
  • Participate in service unit operational activities, to include annual budgeting and periodic cash flow forecasting
  • Participate in continuing education classes with the intent to grow as an individual and to impart new knowledge to the service unit

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited four-year institution
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of relevant and progressive accounting experience
  • CPA is preferred
  • Experience in small-firm public accounting is preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership and/or supervisory experience is a plus
  • Proven analytical ability and judgment that comes with varied accounting experience
  • Proficiency with basic computer programming, including the Microsoft Office Suite (notably Access and Excel)
