Job Summary

Regulatory, legislative, and industry advocacy initiatives are supported by the Legislative and Advocacy Affairs Specialist. This includes a continuous examination of regulatory and legislative environments that affect stakeholders and businesses. In addition to communicating relevant regulatory issues to current and prospective stakeholders, the incumbent supports the executive team with relevant updates in these areas. By overseeing all Association related activities, the incumbent ensures that the organization receives maximum benefit from the significant investment in time and money. In order to maintain/gain a favorable position relative to the organization’s credentials, the incumbent is responsible for developing relationships with payers (3rd-party insurers, payer networks, Medicare Advantage, and Medicaid programs). The incumbent is also responsible for creating and monitoring performance reports to assist the Vice President of Strategy, Growth, and Regulatory Affairs with measuring and forecasting program performance.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following areas:

  • Support of regulatory, legislative, industry advocacy initiatives
  • Scanning of the regulatory/legislative environment – what affects shareholders
  • Writing targeted communications for current and prospective stakeholders on regulatory issues
  • Developing relationships with payers (3rd party insurers, payer networks, Medicare/Medicaid programs
  • Creating/monitoring performance reports and helps with forecasting program performance
  • Attends meetings, maintains regular communications with contacts
  • Assessing key regulatory, legislative, state licensure, payer issues
  • Serves as coordinator at events – addresses questions
  • Executes partnership opportunities by collaborating with marketing, business development, accreditation teams

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in government relations, political science, or comparable experience required.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years experience in government relations, legislative, and advocacy work in the health sector.
  • Experience drafting legislative/regulatory communications and key points.
  • Insurance/payer network experience or understanding.
  • Experience with healthcare accreditation/standards organizations or in the DMEPOS industry preferred.

Skills

  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills.
  • Extensive legislative, regulatory, government advocacy experience. Work effectively with industry advocacy groups and stakeholder groups.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, problem-solving, computer skills.
  • Proactive pursuit of information and clarification so that information can be shared and understood throughout the organization. Determined follow-up and drive to achieve results.
  • Exceptional customer service, handles sensitive situations constructively.
