Job Description

Our client, a nonprofit association in the DC Metro area, is looking for a Senior Director of Corprorate Sponsorship & Membership to join their fun team! As a key member of the industry services team, the senior director plays an integral role in leading the association’s member recruitment operation and partner development. Reporting to the Vice President of Strategic Alliances, and in partnership with the industry services team, this leader works to advance the association’s mission of being the single most effective champion of its industry by building a diverse, active membership, supporting trade show events, and diversifying revenue through new business development opportunities.

The ideal candidate possesses a substantial background in trade association membership business development, has a track record of revenue growth, and ability to create and manage new members, partners, products and processes. Strong writing and interpersonal skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment, also desirable.    

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Partnership Development/Membership 

  • Oversee member recruitment efforts including identifying, tracking and solicitation
  • In collaboration with the Member Engagement team, work to ensure new members are onboarded smoothly
  • Execute partnership strategy and recruitment efforts to further diversify revenue
  • Collaborate with public affairs staff on new revenue opportunities and fulfillment of key partner initiatives
  • Builds new member benefit programs and funding sources for programming through partner relationships
  • Identifies strategic opportunities to support association initiatives – thought leadership, programming, advocacy, research – through engagement with external partners
  • Management of fulfillment tracking for strategic partners with a focus on developing processes and procedures for tracking internal fulfillment responsibilities
  • Work closely with Sr. Director of Finance to ensure budgeted revenue collections occur and develop plans should changes need to be made
  • Ensure that business development initiatives are consistent with the association’s mission
  • Identify and pursue bold new service offerings with a proven case for creating member value

Events 

  • Support the industry services team on tradeshow initiatives including new revenue opportunities and education
  • Participates in strategic conversations relating to the future of tradeshow events to ensure the association provides an annual best-in-class event for the industry
  • Provides leadership and support for driving attendance to current and future tradeshow events
  • Supports member education strategy by highlighting potential content, identifying partner engagement and building partner assets

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • At least 6 years of experience with a history of progressive achievement and advancement in an association or related environment
  • A history of growing revenues in the areas of events, partnership/sponsorship, membership and other related programs and services
  • Demonstrated excellence and ease with all aspects of executing a “go-to market” business plan
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong project management skills and ability to juggle multiple shifting priorities
  • Results-oriented and strong self-management
  • Exceptional written communications
