Job Description

Our client is seeking a Chief Executive Officer to lead the organization.  This position will entail representing the organization and will require the ability to mature the organization through its continued growth. This will involve focus on process, strategy, and policy refinement along with delegation of management of the operational aspects to the direct team. The CEO is the key management leader responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization. The organization has moved beyond Launch Phase and is currently maturing the operational aspects with an expectation that the organization will transition to sustainability and will take on more of a business management function versus operational. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors. The position REQUIRES a candidate with BOTH aviation and cybersecurity experience.  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Actionable Intel: Understands threats, threat actors and their capabilities. Identifying risks before they are realized

  • Program & People Development: Determine program objectives, decision making, and implementation of the decisions. This includes development of employees in an effective way to help achieve the objectives of the organization

  • Global Public/Private Partnerships: Working with both public and private sectors within the aviation industry, collecting resources and/or skills to provide better services. Ability to navigate global government regulators

  • Coordinated Industry Response: Work together within the Aviation industry to harmonize and communicate issues in a collaborative framework

  • Voice of the Industry: Communicate industry activities representing the Aviation industry and membership

  • Board Governance: Works with the board in order to fulfill the organization mission

  • Financial Performance and Viability:  Develops resources enough to ensure the financial health of the organization

  • Organization Mission and Strategy: Works with the board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach

  • Organization Operations: Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriate

  • Optimal Membership: Ensuring membership services are of value to the members and fully supported, continue to mature and adapt service needs to changing environments

Desired Skills

  • Strong background in cyber security and information sharing. This includes risk management, governance, and incident response. The ideal leader will have a background in both IT and product cyber security

  • Transparent and high integrity leadership

  • High level strategic thinking and planning. Ability to envision and convey the organization’s strategic future to the staff, board, and membership

  • Ability to effectively communicate the organization’s mission to staff, membership and the overall aviation community

Role Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required, a Master’s degree is desirable, but equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered

  • A minimum of ten years of professional experience, and at least five years management experience in the nonprofit sector or an aviation related field for small to medium size organizations are preferred
  • Ability to obtain a government clearance
  • Strong aviation industry background with knowledge of aircraft systems, airline and airport operations, supply chain etc. and demonstrated interaction with government regulators globally
  • Experience and skills working with a Board level or senior management team
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and manage a group in a positive and collaborative manner,

    delegating responsibilities to the employees

  • A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results
  • Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting
  • Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong public speaking ability, including ability to engage with media (corporate communications/public relations etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to network and build strategic relationships
  • Ability to think strategically and execute on strategic plans
  • Ability to manage a team in a virtual office environment with frequent travel (U.S. and global)
